Building the Future of Reading Support

Nearly 7 out of 10 secondary students read below proficient level. Realtime EdTech is addressing this $1.2B market with scalable, AI-powered literacy tools that provide support at the exact moment students get stuck.

The Problem

Nearly 7 out of 10 secondary students (grades 5-12) read below proficient level—and current solutions aren't working.

Why Now?

Four converging forces create an unprecedented opportunity in the secondary reading intervention market

Post-Pandemic Urgency

COVID-19 learning loss has intensified the secondary reading crisis. Districts are actively seeking scalable solutions—right now.

Federal Funding Available

ESSER funds, Title I, and special education budgets prioritize literacy interventions—creating a strong buyer market.

  • $122B in federal ESSER funds for K-12 (expires 2024-2026)
  • $18B annual Title I funding for disadvantaged students
  • $14B annual IDEA funding for special education

AI Enables Real-Time Support

Advanced text-to-speech, NLP, and adaptive scaffolding make personalized reading support technically feasible at scale.

  • Natural voice synthesis now indistinguishable from human speech
  • Real-time text analysis and adaptive learning pathways
  • Cloud infrastructure enables instant deployment
  • Cost per student dropping exponentially

Universal Device Access

Every student now has a device. Cloud-based tools can reach all struggling readers without hardware barriers—no infrastructure investment required.

The Perfect Storm

For the first time in history, districts have urgent need, available funding, enabling technology, and universal infrastructure—all converging to create a $1.2B market opportunity in secondary reading intervention.

Our Competitive Advantage

A new approach to a problem existing tools haven't solved

Built for Secondary Readers

Most reading tools are designed for elementary students or focus on remedial phonics that doesn't work for older readers. We address the unique needs of middle and high school struggling readers with age-appropriate, dignity-preserving support.

Secondary-focused reading platform

Curriculum Agnostic

Works with any text—no proprietary content, no expensive licenses, no curriculum lock-in. This means lower cost of entry and faster adoption by districts already invested in existing materials.

Instant Deployment

Cloud-based, zero IT infrastructure, no training required. Teachers start using it the same day—a critical advantage over complex LMS integrations or specialized hardware solutions.

Reduces Stigma

Unlike pull-out programs or "special" interventions, support is subtle, private, and student-controlled. Students access the same content as peers without being singled out.

Subtle, private reading support

Actionable Reading Data

Beyond completion rates—we provide granular data on where students struggle and what support they use. This informs targeted instruction rather than just tracking time-on-task.

Cost-Effective Scale

Fraction of the cost of specialized staff, pull-out programs, or traditional intervention curricula. Our model enables districts to reach every struggling reader, not just those who can access limited intervention spots.

Affordable, scalable reading intervention

About Us

Built in a classroom, not a boardroom—by educators who understand the struggle

At Realtime EdTech, we built SoloStudies from a deep understanding of what struggling readers experience every day.

We know that students who face reading challenges are often capable, curious, and motivated, but reading can make them feel frustrated, embarrassed, dependent, or left behind. Many middle and high school students are expected to access grade-level novels, textbooks, assignments, and assessments while still carrying unresolved skill gaps in decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

We also understand the reality facing schools. Districts are being asked to improve literacy outcomes and respond to new reading expectations while operating with limited funding, limited staffing, and growing student needs. Hiring enough additional reading specialists, interventionists, or paraprofessionals to support every student who is not reading proficiently simply is not realistic for most schools.

SoloStudies was created to meet that gap.

Our platform gives students support in the moment as they read, helping them stay connected to grade-level materials while building the skills they need to become more independent. For teachers, SoloStudies provides insight into where students are struggling, what patterns are emerging, and where continued skill development is needed. We believe accessibility should do more than help students get through an assignment—it should help them grow. SoloStudies is designed to reduce dependence, preserve dignity, and give students, families, teachers, tutors, and districts a scalable way to support reading development without lowering expectations.
